The Upgrade Package
Like any computerised product, your Garmin has an operating system and software running on it. And like most other software vendors, Garmin and their affiliates put out upgrades on an ad-hoc basis. In order to stay up to date with these developments, your gps needs to be updated periodically. This ensures that any bugs are sorted out, and that your machine is running optimaly.
What You Get
The upgrades fall into four categories:
- Firmware - This is the operating system of the gps. Garmin has it's own specialised software for this purpose. The updates include bug fixes, language updates, performance enhancements, and so on.
- Maps - The official supplier of Garmin maps in SA is Garmap. They put out updates every 6-8 months, or as required. These include fixes, new roads, one-way changes, new suburbs and complexes, etc. The latest is the Garmap Africa Series 2010 2nd Edition. It is also possible to cross upgrade to a different mapset; for example from street maps to topographical maps.
- Speed-traps and hazards information. - These are released every two weeks or so. These are databases of where the positions may be, or have been sighted recently.
- Traffic cables and subscription - Certain nuvi's and zumo's can be fitted with traffic antennas, to receive traffic information so that you can avoid such roads. We can install, configure and register this service for you.
You relax - We do it for you
We ensure that these upgrades are done free-of-charge prior to the delivery of your unit. However, upgrades may subsequently be released at any time. You are welcome to come to our offices and spend about 20 minutes with us, while we do the upgrades or leave the unit here and pick it up later. This takes the hassle out of the sometimes tedious process, and because of our vast experience with the Garmin product, we can advise you at the same time. We have a dedicated technical expert on the premises for that purpose.
Please note that the upgrade fee of R199 does not include the Garmap unlock code charge or the price of the traffic cable and subscription. We need to have your Garmin on hand in order to advise you of the charge payable to Garmap. For that reason, please bring your credit card along together with your gps. If you do not have a credit card, we can make alternative arrangements.
